My SCA Photos - Page 2

All photo subjects identified by name or whose faces can be clearly made out and identified appear by permission. (To me this means a stranger could see the photo and then recognize your face in a crowd.) Regardless of permission, I make a sincere effort to avoid posting pictures of easily identifiable faces of children or posting the names of children in association with any pictures (except where I am the subject). All pictures taken by anyone other than me also appear by permission. If I've posted a picture of or taken by you and you would like it removed, please let me know. I'll try to take care of it as soon as I can.

Dehka Dance
You should just see all the wonderful dancers we have in the SCA! Here's our friend Dehka, who also dances and teaches professionally in her everyday life. In this photo, she's dancing at Thescorre's annual College of Three Ravens in 2006. C3R, for short, is a day filled with classes on all sorts of Medieval and SCA related stuff.

Main Games Demo
In exchange for space at the rec center where our barony has its business and social meetings, we agree to do two events with them each year. One is the Main Games, held annually on Main Street. The rec center is one of many organizations contributing to the festivities at that event. We help by providing both dancing and fighting. Here are Khalek and Sigvaldi in 2006.

Tower at Richard's Castle
A friend in our barony has been spending just about his whole life planning and building his own castle - with his own hands! Richard and his lady wife, Sue, are wonderful people. Here's a shot of a tower on the day of their castle party in 2006.

Ryan Shooting Archery
Here we have my buddy Ryan shooting archery for the first time. This is at Thescorre's annual Pax Interruptus, 2006. He turned out not to be a bad shot, even as a beginner, and he's continued to shoot since. He also happens to be a tough chess opponent and is always happy to find someone challenging to play.

And now for a flurry of photos from Pennsic 35 (August 4-19, 2006)...

Yasmina Receives Talon

Cedric Receives Talon

During Thescorre's baronial court, both Yasmina and Cedric were inducted into the Order of the Black Talon by Grendel and Katja, our current baron and baroness, for their skill in and contributions to SCA martial activities - Yasmina for fencing, Cedric for archery.

Honorary Cadet James
His Excellency is a member of Ęthelmearc's Order of the White Scarf, the kingdom's top fencing order. Much to my surprise, my faithful steed, James, was made an honorary cadet for having carried his gear to and from the fencing town battle.

And here's that town battle.

Cedric's Elevation

Later on, at Ęthelmearc's royal court, Cedric was elevated to the Most Noble Order of the Pelican for his many years of service to and participation in the archery community. He was already a member of the kingdom's archery order, the Scarlet Guard. He has taught, been an archery marshal, and sold quality archery equipment through his own business. He even makes some of it. I've gotten all the bows and arrows I've owned through him, as have many others. Cedric is a great promoter of archery in the SCA!

Youth Boffer Fighting

For the kids, Pennsic offers well supervised youth boffer fighting. Great care is taken to ensure that all the right equipment is worn and used and that all the rules are followed so the kids can have a safe sport and a great time participating in it. You'll see just as much chivalry on their list field as you do on that of the adults, too! These boys and girls really take pride and pleasure in exhibiting good sportsmanship.

Carlo Waits to Drum
Here I am on my faithful steed, James, waiting for court to begin at the campsite of the Dark Horde Moritu. Each year, the Khan invites the drummers of Thescorre to play for them before and after court. This year, the two of us who were able to be there were generously given three horses with which to increase our herd - one for me, one for Juliana, and one for James. The little plastic horses were then on display at our campsite for the rest of War.

Court Canopy

"This is camping?" you say. Well, yes, it is at Pennsic. This is where the Khan would later sit to hold court. Check out the beautiful tapestries!

The Khan Holds Court

And now the Khan holds court. As you can see, Daedez is not to be messed with... especially when she's telling a good story. There's a reason she's known as "Her Dread Eloquence"!

Fire Eater

Fire Breather

Pennsic has some interesting night life (or night lights, as it were)...

By the Way, Stop!
...and its own sense of humor, as exhibited by its road signs.

"By the way, stop!"

Thescorre Banner at Closing Ceremonies

That's me holding the Thescorre banner as a group of Thescorrians wait for Closing Ceremonies to begin. I also carried the banner at Opening Ceremonies. It's been an honor for me to do this over the last few years.

And here sit all the crowned heads of the Known World, gathered for the last time until next year.

Packing Victory
Time to go home. Our friend Anna and I celebrate a victory in having helped to successfully pack the vehicles we arrived in. This is Juliana's truck. Not seen here is Anna's father, Mick, by his car.
