The first ever Night of the Living Stim was an exciting celebration of the pleasures and benefits of stimming, as well as an educational opportunity that saw great success. For 3˝ hours, Twitter was abuzz with tweets linking to blog posts and videos, describing favorite stims and stims of the moment, advocating acceptance and understanding of stimming, answering parents' questions, and generally expressing the joy of stimming. Here is some further info on the festivities of the evening:

The original online announcement
was viewed 668 times by the start of the event. See it at the following address: http://tinyurl.com/om3wz6f

The printable version of the announcement
was accessed 14 times and can still be found linked to the original announcement.

Hashtag #LvngStm was used on Twitter
by those participating in the evening's activities.

Hashtag #LIASChat was also added on Twitter
by those participating in the live chat hosted by @LynneSoraya

Everyone who wanted to participate was asked to consider the following:
  • What is stimming?
  • Why do we do it?
  • What challenges do we face in connection with it?
  • What makes stimming awesome for us?
as well as:
  • Have you got a favorite stim?
  • Do you have stories about stimming to share?
  • What do you wish others knew about stimming?

and invited to join us on Twitter to:
  • Tweet all about stimming - whatever you want to say about it
  • Share links to blog posts and videos about stimming that you've created or enjoyed
  • Be part of the live chat
  • Help increase knowledge and promote understanding
  • Have lots of fun!!!
Those not on Twitter were encouraged to engage in parallel activities in celebration of stimming.
