Boycott Autism Speaks

Autism Speaks does NOT speak for us! When Autism Speaks routinely dehumanizes Autistic people for personal gain, silence is NOT an option. Speak up or be complicit. Join us and tell partners of Autism Speaks to stop funding hate groups!

Protest of Autism Speaks:
Hop 'n' Snack

November 12-14
2013
and beyond...

While Autism Speaks is holding their first-ever national policy and action summit in Washington, D.C, actual Autistics are there, protesting the organization's promotion of fear and ignorance about us. Meanwhile, back home, this parallel video and graphic event is taking place in support of the protesters. Participants are invited to use their YouTube accounts or any other online space to which they have access to post their contributions.

This Is Autism Flash Blog

November 18, 2013

As a response to the fearmongering of Autism Speaks and their planned summit in Washington, D.C., the This is Autism Flashblog was announced to occur on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013. With the youngest participant being a boy of age 10 (one of the first non-speaking autistics to receive a heart transplant), a number of individuals showed we have a lot to say about who we are and what our life experiences are like. From the official Website: "Tell us what "This is Autism" means to you. You can write a paragraph or a blog post, contribute a poem or a video, make a comic or a graphic. Use your imagination. Let's tell the world what autism is in the words and works of autistic people and those who love and support them."

Autistics Speaking Day

Annually, November 1

The purpose of ASDay, the first "Autism Holiday", is for Autistic people to use social networking media and websites to tell our own stories, our own experiences from our own lives, our difficulties, our strengths, passions and joys.

Autistic History Month

Annually, month of November

Autistic History Month was started by a group of Autistics in 2013. The month of November was chosen because the first day of the month is Autistics Speaking Day, a day established in 2010 for Autistics to speak, write, blog, paint, compose, and otherwise express the lived experiences of autism. Autistics Speaking Day seemed like an auspicious way to begin something so important as Autistic History Month. There is a blog serving as the hub for Autistic History Month that features the work of Autistics and allies who are celebrating the rich history and culture of Autistics. You can contact the organizers of Autistic History Month from there to submit a contribution for publication.
ANSWERS

Periodic

Inspired by recent events, this is a concept, not an organization. There's a need to connect people with accurate information and to debunk myths, in order to get across the message that, while all forms of autism, including Asperger's, should be taken seriously, there is no reason to fear us for our being on the spectrum. Links are grouped by theme.
